Celebrate all things Malaysian in this free festival

On 12 October 2014, Malaysia Festival will be hosted in Queen Victoria market in Melbourne CBD. Malaysia Festival marks Malaysia Day and invites Melburnians to come along for a full day of fun and fiesta.

Malaysia Day marks the establishment of the Malaysian federation on 16th September 1963. The festival aims to uphold Malaysia's colonial history, incorporating the influences of its former colonial masters, Britain, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal. Alive Group will be holding the Malaysia Festival. The festival is also supported by Malaysia Consulate General Melbourne, Vision Malaysia, City of Melbourne, Mecca, IMCV, Central Equity, Bank of Melbourne and all participating businesses and restaurants. This event will offer visitors the ultimate Malaysian experience and a glimpse of the Malaysian culture. This alfresco street dining event promises to be a paradise for connoisseurs of food offering over 30 types of delicious dishes from Melbourne's numerous Malaysian restaurants. A number of food stalls will be present to offer visitors not only a taste of Malaysia, but also cuisines from other countries such as Indonesian, Singapore, Spain and Portugal. As the icing on the cake, chefs from East Malaysia will make a special appearance and will deliver three exquisite Malaysian dishes which cannot be usually found in Melbourne.

There will also be 10 specialist stalls selling handicraft, makeup and Thai massage services. Interactive activities for kids will make sure that the little ones are enthralled. Cultural performances will deliver a sensory extravaganza to all.

Be mindful that some popup stalls in the festival may not have eftpos facilities so don't forget to carry some cash. Learn more about this festival by visiting this website. Visit this Facebook page for more information.

Admission is free to this wonderful festival. Enjoy the sights, sounds and smell of Malaysia at Queen Victoria Market and get into the Malaysian festive spirit.
