The Surrey Hills Music Festival has always been the premier community music event in the area and 2015 was no exception! Starting quite a few years ago as a multi-arts festival, this was it’s sixth year as a dedicated music festival – yet it is so much more than that! Workshops, food, dance and community are some of the many elements that come together to create this inclusive, engaging festival which takes place right here in the heart of Surrey Hills.

The 2015 Festival Highlights:

Major Sponsors and Real Estate Supporter

The Music Festival began with it's usual bang! To the period charm of the hall Our Holy Redeemer in Mont Albert, we added some invigorating music, tasty snacks, delicious beverages and a whole night of excitement.

  • Featuring International Soul Diva "Chelsea Wilson"

with her deep soul band to get your ears open and your feet tapping

Then it was the funky boogaloo beats of

playing the syncopated sax riffs that pack the dance floor and get you feeling joyful.

Saturday 21st

The Festival continued with free performances across multiple stages. An eclectic variety of acts appeared with the program featuring the range and calibre of artists that has characterised the Surrey Hills Music Festival in the past.

Music and refreshments continued on into the evening. Multi-stage music, dance, craft and workshop events, children's activities were all presented free to the public.

Sunday 22nd

The Neighbourhood Centre forecourt came alive with music as the Gospel morning got under way at 11am. The Yarra Gospel Choir, the Mood Swing Choir and the incredible Meg Corson plus many others kept sacred Sunday full of soul.

At Zimt Cafe, the Ade Ishs Trio played original contemporary jazz music by bandleader/composer/pianist Ade Ishs, known for his lyrical, emotive, and atmospheric style.

Volunteers

The Festival would not have been possible without an army of volunteers, who did a fantastic job in assisting the Festival Co-ordinator, Committee and Centre staff before, during and after the Festival. A big thank you to everyone involved.

If you are interested in volunteering at the 2016 festival please see the "volunteers" tab in the Music Festival menu above in due course.

Surrey Hills Music Festival 2014

History

The Surrey Hills Music Festival was established in 2010 and, after continuing for a further five very successful years we are now planning the seventh festival in 2016. The festival is the suburb’s standout annual community event and its only dedicated music festival embraced by locals and visitors to the area.

Our long-term vision is to build on the enormous community engagement, creative talent, passion and support that has grown year by year, so that we can continue to enhance the well-being and resilience of our community through the medium of music and creative arts. We aim to do this by creating a festival that engages across cultural and demographic barriers, bringing in performers and audience from across Surrey Hills and the broader area.
